Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 13, 2026
ReverseTaxCalc is a small, independently run website. We built it to help people figure out pre-tax prices, not to collect personal data. This policy explains what information we do and don't gather, how cookies work on this site, and what choices you have.
What We Collect
We collect anonymous, aggregate analytics data through Google Analytics 4. This includes things like which pages people visit, how long they stay, what device and browser they're using, and which country or region they're visiting from. None of this is tied to you personally. We use it to understand which calculators are popular, where traffic comes from, and how we can improve the site.
We also use ipapi.co to detect your approximate location when you first load the calculator so we can pre-select the right state tax rate. This happens through a single API call that looks up your general region based on your IP address. We don't store the result on our servers, and ipapi.co's own privacy policy governs how they handle that request on their end.
What We Don't Collect
We don't collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information. There is no account system, no login, and no sign-up form. The numbers you type into the calculator never leave your browser. We have no access to the amounts you enter, the tax rates you select, or the results you see. All calculations happen entirely on your device.
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 to track pageviews and user behavior in aggregate. This means we can see that 1,200 people visited the California calculator page last week, but we cannot see who those people are. GA4 collects data such as pages viewed, session duration, bounce rate, general geographic region, and device type. Google processes this data under their own privacy policy. GA4 does not collect your name or email address through our implementation.
If you prefer not to be tracked by Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on, or use a browser extension like uBlock Origin that blocks tracking scripts entirely.
localStorage Usage
The calculator uses your browser's localStorage to save your last five calculations so you can reference them during your session or when you come back later. It also stores your dark mode or light mode preference. This data lives entirely on your device. We never read it, transmit it, or have any access to it. If you clear your browser data or use private/incognito mode, this information is wiped automatically.
Cookies
ReverseTaxCalc itself does not set any first-party cookies. However, the third-party services we use do set cookies on your browser:
- Google Analytics 4 sets cookies (such as
_gaand_ga_*) to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. These cookies expire after a period of inactivity and do not contain personally identifiable information. - Google AdSense sets cookies to serve ads and, if you have not opted out, to personalize those ads based on your browsing activity across sites that use Google's advertising network. You can manage your ad personalization preferences at Google Ad Settings.
You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Doing so won't affect the calculator's functionality.
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services to keep this site running:
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous usage analytics, as described above.
- Google AdSense — serves display ads on the site. AdSense may use cookies for ad personalization. Ad revenue is what keeps this tool free. You can opt out of personalized ads through Google Ad Settings or by using an ad blocker.
- ipapi.co — IP-based geolocation used to auto-detect your state when you load the calculator. We send a single request to their API; no data from the response is stored on our side. Their service is governed by their own privacy policy.
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with anyone beyond what is described here.
Your Rights
You have full control over the data associated with your use of this site:
- Clear localStorage: Open your browser's developer tools (usually F12), go to the Application or Storage tab, and delete the localStorage entries for this site. Or simply clear your browser data.
- Block cookies: Use your browser's built-in cookie settings to block third-party cookies, or block cookies from specific domains.
- Use an ad blocker: Extensions like uBlock Origin will block both analytics tracking and advertising scripts.
- Opt out of Google Analytics: Install Google's official opt-out browser add-on.
- Opt out of ad personalization: Visit Google Ad Settings to turn off personalized advertising.
Because we don't collect personal information, there is no account to delete or personal data to request. If you clear your browser's cookies and localStorage, there is effectively no trace of your visit on your end.
