Terms of Service
Welcome to ReverseTaxCalc. By using this website you agree to these terms. They are written in plain English so you can actually read them. If anything here does not make sense, feel free to reach out and ask.
Use of the Service
ReverseTaxCalc is a free online calculator that helps you find the pre-tax price from a total that includes sales tax. You do not need to create an account, provide any personal information, or pay anything to use it. The tool is available for personal use, business reference, bookkeeping, expense reporting, or any other lawful purpose. You can run as many calculations as you like, use the multi-item mode, and export results to CSV or PDF at no cost.
We ask that you do not use automated scripts to send excessive requests to the site in a way that degrades performance for other visitors. Normal use of the calculator, even heavy use, is perfectly fine.
Accuracy and Limitations
The built-in state tax rates reflect average combined rates (state plus average local) sourced from publicly available data. These rates are useful as starting points, but sales tax rates vary by county, city, and sometimes even by district within the same city. Rates also change over time as states and localities adjust their tax policies.
The calculator results are for general informational and planning purposes only. Sales tax laws, rates, and exemptions vary by jurisdiction and change frequently. We make reasonable efforts to keep the built-in rates current, but we do not guarantee their accuracy for any specific transaction. For transactions where tax accuracy is legally or financially significant, verify the applicable rate with the relevant state or local tax authority.
If you need a precise rate for a specific location, use the custom rate field and enter the exact rate from your receipt or from your local tax authority's website. The calculator itself performs the math correctly — the variable is whether the rate you use matches the rate that was actually applied.
No Professional Advice
Nothing on this website constitutes tax advice, legal advice, or professional financial guidance. The calculator is a math tool. It divides numbers. It does not interpret tax law, determine whether a purchase is taxable or exempt, or account for special tax rules that may apply to certain goods or services in certain jurisdictions.
If you are making decisions where the tax amount has legal or financial consequences — filing taxes, disputing a charge, preparing audited financial statements — consult a qualified tax professional or CPA. They can give you advice that accounts for your specific situation. We cannot.
Intellectual Property
The content, design, code, and branding of ReverseTaxCalc are the property of ReverseTaxCalc. You are free to use the calculator as much as you want and to share links to the site. You may not copy, reproduce, or republish the site's pages, design, or underlying code without written permission. The tax rates themselves are public information and are not proprietary.
If you would like to reference or link to the site in your own content, you are welcome to do so. A link back to the homepage is appreciated but not required.
Changes to the Service
We may update the calculator's features, add new tools, adjust the built-in tax rates, or revise these terms at any time. When we make meaningful changes to these terms, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
We do not guarantee that the site will be available at all times. Occasionally the site may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance or updates. We will do our best to keep downtime to a minimum.
